Letters from the "Meet Me in St. Louis" Street Enduro

Hey Backroader,

Rode your street enduro run today. What the hell is it with those slow sections between Draper & Shawnee. I could hardly hold my Manure Wagon back. Actually i had a really good time. I would suggest to your other riders that they take along an oklahoma state map or look one over before starting the ride. I would caution folks about the loose gravel on Slaughterville road after Tribbey. And the 156th Street turn off Slaughterville road.

I never knew there were so many curvy roads in this part of the state.

My favorite stop was in Byars at "GIGI's" It had the look of a possible backroads movie set. However I was pleasantly suprised with the interior (rusty corrigated barn steel) The people there were friendly with cold drinks etc. The place is a hang out for an old fart named Hogan. He'll ask you to sit down at his booth and tell a few stories if you have time. He's rode a scooter or to in his lifetime.

Can't wait til the next ride.

Backroader,

Great ride you guys put together. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Who knew that kind of stuff was so close to the city.

My girlfriend helped navigate but it really wasn’t that hard once you got used to it. She really had a good time enjoying the scenery and the old towns.

They really need to update that St. Louis sign. I think there are a lot more pyro’s there now.

I’ll be sending in my scorecard but don’t really care, the backroad tour was worth everything.

Thanks for a ride I won’t soon forget.

R.D.

Hi Backroader,

My friend and I picked up our packets at Ajax last week and looked the stuff over. There aren’t very many events that scooters can participate in and I found this to be very interesting. The first part was really good on my scooter because the limits were within it’s speed capabilities. Later sections had a few that were a little over what I can do. Regardless of that we had a great time following the route and enjoying the scenic countryside. We stopped and ate at Odell’s restaurant in Asher. The food was really good and the pie was fantastic.

We had a great day doing the street enduro and will be telling all our friends about how enjoyable the route was. Those backroads by Wanette and Tribbey were so much fun they won’t believe it.

Thanks for the new experience.

Backroader,

I’ve been down some of those roads a hundred times but never thought to turn off and try some that this course took us. Man I had no idea what I was missing by just staying on the same roads I’ve taken for years until now. The timekeeping and mileage stuff adds excitement and challenge to a very enjoyable ride on some roads I’ll come back to. My wife enjoyed it as much as I did.

Thanks for putting on this event and opening my eyes to something new.

Hi David,

I went out and did the "Street Enduro" today and really enjoyed it.  Enclosed is the score sheet from the packet.  The ride was great as I said and the best time of year to do it.  Count me in for the future rides.

David,
I completed the Street Enduro this weekend, and rode on a real street
enduro that I had Hotdog rebuild. This Honda is like the old Beach
Boys song, back when everyone wanted one. I loved the backroads that
even took me through old downtown Shawnee where my grandfather had a
shoe store on Main Street under our family name that is now Brown's
shoes. Takes me back. I'll participate in any future rides that you
have, keep me posted. Thanks. Patrick Earnest
